Future-Proof: Compact Absolute Encoders for Industry 4.0 

Rotary encoders have been an essential component for decades when it comes to the exact position and speed detection in machines. But encoders are much more than just transmitters of process data these days. They provide important information for condition monitoring and thus make a significant contribution to predictive maintenance concepts in modern mechanical engineering.  Thanks to their integrated IO-Link interface, the new absolute encoders WV3650M and WH3650M from SIKO are genuine "door openers" for Industry 4.0 applications.
 
The new rotary encoders from the second generation of the 36 mm series from SIKO are not only particularly compact, they are also a future-proof solution for machine concepts in Industry 4.0 thanks to their new architecture as well as other interfaces such as IO-Link and smart features. The two rotary encoders, which are optionally available as full-shaft or hollow-shaft versions, can be implemented with an SSI or an IO-Link interface. Especially with the IO-Link interface, which is integrated according to the latest standard in version 1.1 according to IEC 61131-9, SIKO has enhanced  the rotary encoders with important functions in the field of communication and diagnostics. The sensor transmits information relevant for the system availability such as temperature, operating hours and other diagnostic data together with the position and speed values.


Easy integration thanks to sophisticated design
The rotary encoders are not only integrated into the control system in no time at all, but also quickly and easily integrated into the overall system thanks to their sophisticated design and a variety of electrical and mechanical options. Regardless of whether single-turn or multi-turn version, with plug or cable outlet, or in a solid shaft or optional hollow shaft variant, the rotary encoders can be flexibly configured to the needs of the application.  


Cost-efficient and robust 
The multi-turn version is gearless and battery free and, depending on the version, can cover more than 16 million revolutions and consequently a range of 24 bits. Both rotary encoder versions are particularly robust. With a degree of protection of up to IP67, a wide temperature range of -40...+85° C and high shock and vibration resistance, they are very well suited for use in industrial applications and factory automation.
 
Wire-actuated encoders with IO-Link and SSI up to 15 m
In combination with SIKO wire-actuated encoders, linear distances of up to 15 m can also be detected absolutely and precisely with the WV3650M. In addition to the magnetic bearingless rotary encoders from the MagLine product range, SIKO now also offers a wide range of sensors with IO-Link and SSI for linear and rotary measurement.
The WH3650M rotary encoder is an absolute magnetic single- and multi-turn rotary encoder, which impresses with its extremely compact design. It is particularly robust and resistant to vibrations.  Thanks to its high degree of protection up to IP67 and a temperature range of -40° C … +85° C, it is also suitable for demanding industrial applications. The particularly small design with a diameter of only 36 mm predestines the rotary encoder for use in applications with limited installation space. Thanks to the IO-Link and SSI interfaces, it is ready for Industry 4.0 and ideally suited for point-to-point communication in automation networks.
