Everyone is talking about the concept of Industry 4.0. Industry 4.0 not only refers to the intelligent networking of sensors and machines. There is more a question of a new dimension of solutions at the disposal of companies that help them to make processes more efficient, sustainable and powerful. Thanks to the latest innovations in the field of absolute encoders, the future of self-optimizing systems and processes is increasing becoming a reality. The new compact and absolute Industrial Ethernet rotary encoders from sensor specialist SIKO make a significant contribution to this!

 
SIKO GmbH is expanding its broad range of rotary encoders with a range of new Industrial Ethernet rotary encoders. According to the motto "absolute, compact, future-proof", these rotary encoders are the answer to the requirements of new machine concepts and Industry 4.0. The absolute optical single- and multi-turn encoders WV5850 and WH5850 are high-resolution and designed for real-time applications. In the PROFINET version, they support a cycle time of 250 µs and are suitable for use in drive technology, warehouse technology and factory automation. Especially in drive technology, the rotary encoders score with their magnetic insensitivity and, thanks to the support of the latest PROFINET and EtherNet/IP functions, easy integration and optimum system availability. While the WH5850 is available with different hollow shaft diameters, the WV5850 can be selected with different solid shaft designs. But not only on the front side, the rotary encoders offer full flexibility; the particularly compact hood of the rotary encoders contributes to a substantial part of the particularly small installation space for rotary encoders with an Industrial Ethernet interface! Consequently, the rotary encoder is easy to integrate into systems in which both performance and installation space are essential.


PROFINET IO, RT and IRT – real-time in a compact design
In the PROFINET versions, the two rotary encoders have a compact design and also support all PROFINET functions and properties with the latest encoder profile (V 4.2). As a result, the rotary encoders comply with Conformance Class C – Encoder Class 4, as well as the Identification & Maintenance functions according to version 1.16. The Media Redundancy Protocol (MRP), the neighborhood detection via LLDP as well as the possibility of access from several PLC to the rotary encoder were also implemented thanks to shared devices. The rotary encoders meet high real-time requirements thanks to a cycle time of 250 μs. Furthermore, the two encoders support clock-synchronous cycle times with a SendCycle of up to 31.25 μs and a jitter of < 1 μs and are thus optimally suited for dynamic applications.


Ethernet/IP – from the control level to the plant floor
The rotary encoders with the optionally available EtherNet/IP interface ensure more performance from the control level to the plant floor. Thanks to the fast position value transmission, a low RPI time of at least 1 ms and the high performance, they are also suitable for time-critical applications up to 1000 Hz update frequency. The fast startup behavior of the rotary encoders and the implementation of DLR (Device level Ring), which ensures that a single cable break does not lead to a plant stop, not only reduce costs, but also contribute to significantly higher system availability.

Wire-actuated encoders with Industrial Ethernet interfaces up to 15 m!
In combination with SIKO wire-actuated encoders, linear distances of up to 15 m can also be detected absolutely and precisely with the WV5850. As one of the market leaders in the field of wire-actuated encoders, SIKO now also offers the popular Industrial Ethernet interfaces Profinet and EtherNet/IP as well as EtherCAT from 2022.
The absolute optical multiturn rotary encoder WH5850 is particularly high-resolution and designed for time-critical applications. Thanks to the large selection of Industrial Ethernet interfaces, such as PROFINET (also with PROFIdrive profile), EtherNet/IP as well as short reaction times and 100% magnetic insensitivity, it is ideally suited for use in drive technology, bearing technology and factory automation.
